Kids with food allergies need advent calendars too! Right? I made this Allergy Friendly Advent Calendar in 2011 and it really worked out well. It’s a super easy way to make an allergy free (dairy free, gluten free, soy free, egg free, nut free, peanut free, top8free, wheat free) advent calendar! This year I made SunButter® chocolates. I just mixed some SunButter® and powdered sugar in with the allergy-friendly chocolate. It was messy but worth the effort. 🙂
How to Make an Allergy Friendly Advent Calendar
Purchase a regular chocolate advent calendar that comes in the cardboard box. Open the top of the box and slide the entire mold out. Pop out all of the chocolates that are made with cow’s milk. Clean out the mold VERY well. Scrub that sucker really good, you don’t want any reactions later. If there is any residue, continue cleaning until completely clean. Also, double and triple check to make sure the previous chocolate did not melt inside the container. This is VERY important!
Melt your allergy free chocolate in a double boiler and add whatever mixing you’d like. If you don’t have a double boiler, try melting the chocolate in the microwave being very careful not to burn it. Slowly pour melted chocolate into the mold and allow it to sit until firm.
Cover the front of the mold with a sheet of tin foil. This will protect the allergy-free chocolate from getting contaminated by any residue left inside of the box. Slide the entire mold back into the box and close the box back up. Make sure you have the mold in the correct way so that the chocolates line up with the little windows. TaDahhhh!!!! Done.
Now just enjoy the smile on your child’s face every day when they open the little window and peel back the foil to see what type of chocolate they’re getting that day. I guarantee it is a memory that your child will have for the rest of their life. 🙂
Enjoy!

Oh yeah…you may also want to make sure the cap to the chocolate squirter is on tight. Otherwise you get this mess. 🙂 I sure was glad I took that other picture before the cap popped off. PHEW!

Time does fly! So simple and better than the store bought one I’m sure. Such a cute idea and I’m going to the cake and candy store this week so I’ll have to grab a mold.
