Dear Diary, The beginning

January 23, 2014 by Elizabeth DiBurro 3 Comments

Dear Diary - honest thoughts and opinions of a food allergy mom

I’ve decided to try something new, share my innermost thoughts and feelings(Dear Diary) and stop hiding behind my recipes.  I’m not sure if you have noticed, but it’s been quite a while since I wrote an opinion piece.

When I first started this blog, I frequently shared my opinion and my thoughts about parenting a child with severe food allergies.  But something happened, people began to read what I wrote and it put me in a vulnerable situation of easily being judged and criticized by others.  I began to fear that I would make mistakes that could be viewed by anyone wishing to take the time to read it.  Not just your average grammatical errors, but opinions about important topics like whether or not to have an allergy free home or my opinions on CDC guidelines. What if I look back in two or three months and realize that my opinions that I felt so strongly about at the time, were wrong?  What if people are reading what I wrote and shaking their heads in disgust because they can’t believe someone could have those opinions?  What if, what if, what if…
Then I realized something, regardless of whether my opinion is right or wrong I am allowed to have one, I am allowed to change it, and I’m allowed to be wrong.  I am only human.  I am not an expert, I’m just a mom sharing her thoughts and opinions about parenting her child who happens to have multiple severe food allergies and EoE.
So this is me making an attempt to be real.  My new series will be titled “Dear Diary” and you just read the first post.  I will still bombard you with top-eight free recipes (no worries) but I want this blog to be more than just recipes.  I want it to be a place where we can openly discuss our views and opinions on all things because hearing other people’s views and changing your opinion isn’t something to be ashamed of.
Stay tuned,
Elizabeth

Don't take people's comments personally. Frankly, we all have opinons right or wrong. I think it's easy to hide behind the computer and say nasty things. KWIM Love your blog. Kris Miller told me out it. 🙂 I have recently been diagnosed with a soy allergy. It drives me crazy. LOL

Soy is such a sneaky food. I hate how its in almost everything! I had to google KWIM, I guess I'm not that savy with the acronyms. Now that I know it, I'll use it. 🙂 Thank you for your comment and good luck with your soy avoidance!
