This is the expression on my little boy’s face when he saw his Minecraft birthday cake for the first time. I love it. It’s all the reward I need but it doesn’t stop there. He was so appreciative that he is STILL thanking me constantly for his cake. You know how us allergy moms talk about others who “get it” when it comes to allergies? Well, my little guy “gets” how hard I work to make his birthday cake special. He also understands that there was no way I could have done it alone this year. It melted my heart that he recognized all the hard work that my Mom put in this past week to help me make his cake. Thanks, Mom!!!!
Back to the cake…The entire cake is dairy free, soy free, egg free, and nut free (with the exception of the cake toppers). I did use wheat with this recipe (he’s able to eat it again) however last year I used Cherrybrook Kitchen Chocolate Cake Mix and it was fantastic! I would also recommend King Arthur Flour Gluten Free Cake Mix for another great mix that works really well even when taking out dairy, soy, and egg.

The platter that I used for the cake is 9×13. I decided to use two 8×8 cake molds and make one vanilla and one chocolate. Making two chocolate cakes would have been easier but my son specifically requested a vanilla cake so I had to use the vanilla cake on the bottom layer where it couldn’t be seen because the chocolate cake looked more like dirt. I cut the cake using 2 inches as the guideline per “square” but wanted to keep the cake mostly together without cutting each individual piece. I also used a grass cake tip to get the frosting to look just right.

Do you all know Stampy and Squid from YouTube??? You know…Stampylongnose, Stampylonghead, and iBallisticSquid?? My son LOVES their videos and has even been known to talk with an English accent while playing Minecraft because of them! He’s also started making his own little videos. You can take a sneak peak of one of them here:
I knew that if I could make Stampy and Squid appear on his birthday cake that it would be the surprise of the year! I was able to order cake toppers through Etsy that were shaped just like Stampy, Squid, and Lfor Lee. Edna from FancyTopCupcake made the cake toppers and shipped them to my home for a reasonable price. She could not grantee that her products were safe for those with food allergies but we were NOT eating them. I used them strictly for presentation only.
And I put it all together to get this!
So did your face look similar to my son’s when you finally saw the finished cake???
Please say yes!!!
Also, feel free to take a look at the plans that I created to measure each item. It’s nothing fancy (especially with the paper fringe), but if you wanted to make the same cake design I’ve already done all of the math for you. Just take a look here and please let me know if you have any questions.

This is by far the best allergy safe Birthday cake I've seen to date! You've spoiled it for your son's future wife. Who is going to top that?
Andrea says
Thank you so much for this!!! My guy is turning 7 too, loves Minecraft, Stampy and Squid too, (talks with accent and British slang, too!) and has a severe nut allergy. I’m going to try to make a great Minecraft for him!
