Take a look at these brownies. Not bad eh? They look good, right? They sure smell fantastic. My two boys and the three kids from across the street are waiting impatiently for them to cool enough to be cut. I substitute EnerG egg replacer for the eggs and apple sauce and Sunsweet lighter bake for the butter. I have my fingers crossed that the other kids won’t realize that they’re allergy free. Each child gets a good hunk of warm chocolate brownie…mmmm… WRONG I sneak a bite and can hardly swallow what’s in my mouth. Yes, they’re that bad. 🙁
You can usually tell when an allergy free recipe will be bad. It will either come out like soup or it’ll be hard as a rock. That’s what’s strange about this one. The texture was perfect. It was the taste that was horrible.
I don’t suppose anyone out there has a good brownie recipe that has no dairy, no egg, no soy, no nuts, and no coconut that they’d be willing to share? Please?

This is the recipe my husband (the dessert maker) uses. (It's from the Betty Crocker cookbook.)
2/3 cup stick margarine, melted
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 tsp vanilla
3 eggs (or EnerG replacer-we use carbonated water and it tends to make things "fluffier")
1 cup flour
1. Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom and sides of square 9x9x2 pan.
2. Mix everything in a bowl and spread it into the pan. Sometimes he mixes in chocolate chips to add to the flavor.
3. Bake 40-45 minutes or until brownies pull away from the sides of the pan.
Hope that helps!

Hi Gina,
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I used a very similar recipe but can't use butter or margarine. I substituted apple sauce and Sunsweet Lighterbake. I think that's where I went wrong. Next time I won't use the lighterbake. It changed the flavor too much. 🙁 I LOVE your idea to use carbonated water with the egg replacer!!! Thanks again for sharing! 🙂

Try this one - it is honestly to die for. We have multiple food allergies in our house and this one is ok for us. So good! http://itchylittleworld.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/fudge-brownies/
I came across your site on the Circle of Mom's top 25 Food Allergy Mom Blogs. It's given me the idea to start a blog hop for allergies, asthma and eczema - parents or adults dealing with the condition. Please check out the page here and add a comment if you'd like to join. Thanks!

replace the egg and oil/butter with pumpkin puree in a box mix. Same amount 1 egg is about 1/4 C liquid. put the pumpkin in the bowl, then slowly add the mix and stir until all is blended. then bake per the directions on the box. I have found that is you want to double the recipe use 2 8×8 containers and not 1 9×13.
I use the Ghiradelli double chocolate brownie mix, as it fits our allergy needs.
